The Story of Berd Bears

This project originated in Berd, a small town in Armenia’s Tavush region, near the border with Azerbaijan. The region has faced economic hardships due to its proximity to conflict zone, leading to limited employment opportunities, especially for women.

To address this, the Berd Women’s Resource Center Foundation (BWRCF) launched the Berd Bears project in 2012. The initiative provides local women with jobs by training them to handcraft beautiful teddy bears from natural materials. Each bear is 100% handmade, making every piece unique.
